Kike Garcinuño’s artistic practice begins in the world of graffiti, interested in the visuality of spraying on the wall. He soon began to travel (Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Mali, United States, Taiwan, Korea…), where he learned to configure his own language based on referents from that world such as Basquiat, Haring or Lee Quiñones. The result of these trips is a playful work, full of experiences, where the artist lets his formal and compositional interests balance between different techniques: collage, resins, oils and sprays.
Influenced by surrealist automatism, he later creates works between abstraction and the technical-technological, due to their materials (laminated resins) and their appearance. All of them evoke in a dreamlike way figurations and narratives that the spectator has to interpret with his own baggage and imaginary. Garcinuño is interested in chromatic play and compositional economy, which he reduces to brushstrokes, games of textures and volumes with masses that generally attract the force to certain points of the work.
Kike Garcinuño is an abstract visual artist whose pictorial language combines on the same canvas abstract forms, lines and rhythms with the introduction of realistic photographic images.
In his pictorial language he combines on the same canvas as many plastic techniques as necessary so that abstract and realism; subjectivity and objectivity are combined in the same format that we can hardly pigeonhole. Beyond the surprises that he incorporates in each work.
Oil, resins, sprays, adhesive tapes, intervened digital reproductions, papers, leathers, binders and solvents of all kinds are executed to present in the final manufacture a dialogue between abstract and reality of complex cataloguing.
Garcinuño’s dreamlike world is an attempt to represent something as ethereal as emotions and feelings and are also a reflection of the opposites in each of these emotions or feelings, the subjective and the objective. His work is an essay on the chronic disease of the XXI century, the false appearances.
However, Kike’s work is hopeful, it invites us to face life with a positive attitude and to find beauty within our complex inner worlds.
The introduction of digital elements within the work is a parallelism of the relationship of the contemporary individual with the world around him as well as a reflection of how much of the digital is already part of us and vice versa. In his harmonious compositions, color and form become unpredictable, like analgama beats that make our hearts beat so that we are no longer just spectators, but part of the work.
Kike Garcinuño’s work has been shown in museums such as the Pereira Art Museum (Colombia), Gibara Museum in Havana. Or in art fairs in Taipei, Korea, Shanghai and spaces such as Kreuzberg Centre (Berlin). His works are part of collections such as the SZ Foundation, Telefonica Foundation, Santander Foundation, Mayte Spinola Museum, Cicero Collection or the Fernandez-Tapias Collection.
