So there I was in Gran Canaria, showing off my super realistic painting, when this young autistic kid walks up and tells me it doesn’t look real at all. He says, ‘Close your eyes when you paint. It will work.’ That comment? Total game changer for me. From that point on, I spent decades working closely with other autistic individuals and people with varied perceptions of reality, delving deep into the myriad ways we interpret our universe, always in search of the multicolored truth that binds us all.
Hi, I’m Fulvio Gonella. Born in Savigliano, near Turin, Italy in 1973, I’ve hopped around various European cities for studies and life experiences. But Spain? That’s been home for over 15 years. After spending a significant chunk of time in Gran Canaria, I’ve now settled in Malaga, where I’ve also established my artist studio.
Now, about my art process? It’s a dance between instinct and intellect. Before a brush ever hits the canvas, each artwork starts as a long, winding story I pen down. By the time it transforms into a painting, there’s a rich backstory that breathes life into every stroke and color.
My European journey, combined with my deep interactions with those seeing the world through a different lens, has shaped my exploration into the duality of existence and the transformation of perception. I’m all about understanding how we see the world, and my art is a reflection of that. Dive in, and maybe you’ll start seeing things in a fresh, new light.”
